To assist with planning accommodations for the changes in your current courses, the Accessibility Specialist will be asking you questions like:

  1. Do you have access to reliable internet and computer for the rest of the semester?
  2. What barriers to audio, video, graphics, or text are you experiencing/anticipating?
  3. How will you be evaluated? What changes have your instructors made to assignments, exams, deadlines?
  4. What supports and strategies will you need to be successful with online format?
  5. Do you have any concerns or questions about accessing other campus resources that we can help with?

We are here to help make Douglas College an accessible and welcoming place for all students. If you are anticipating or experiencing barriers to access, we can help.

We will work with you and your instructors to create an individual plan for accommodations and support.

A plan may include accommodations like:

  • Extra time for exams
  • Audio recording of lectures
  • Text to speech software
  • Adjustable work station
  • Sign language interpretation

It may also include supports such as

  • Helping you apply for StudentAidBC disability funding
  • Getting in touch with other services
  • Building self-advocacy skills
  • Planning courses and transitions

We work with students to remove barriers related to learning disabilities, ADHD, mental health issues, physical disabilities, sensory impairments, TBI, chronic illnesses, and more. We can help plan for temporary, long-term, or intermittent needs.
