No. If you and/or your mentee do not wish to video chat, that is your choice. However, we strongly encourage you to connect with your mentee via video call or in-person when needed to check in. It is a great opportunity to get to know each other and build your relationship.

We will be using Microsoft Teams. This is a free application included in your Office 365 account. This is where you will interact with your mentees, receive updates about the program, log conversations, and learn about other volunteer opportunities!

Mentee (New International Student) FAQ

Throughout your first semester, you can reach out to mentor with any questions you may have about your new life at Douglas College and Metro Vancouver area, share common interests, culture and more! Your mentor will check in with you to make sure you feel supported. However, please note that your mentor is not expected to be a counsellor, advisor, or instructor for you. A mentor is meant to be a point of reference for the mentee to the services at the college.

While we encourage participants to continue to stay in touch with each other, this program will be one semester. For Fall 2022, please note that your mentorship will officially end on December 17th.
