No. If you and/or your mentee do not wish to video chat, that is your choice. However, we strongly encourage you to connect with your mentee via video call when needed to check in. It is a great opportunity to get to know each other and build your relationship.
For the Winter 2022 semester, we will be introducing mentors to Microsoft Teams. This is a free application included in your Office 365 account. This is where you will interact with your mentees, receive updates about the program, log conversations, and learn about other volunteer opportunities!
Throughout your first semester, you can reach out to mentor with any questions you may have about your new life at Douglas College and Metro Vancouver area, share common interests, culture and more! Your mentor will check in with you to make sure you feel supported. However, please note that your mentor is not expected to be a counsellor, advisor, or instructor for you. A mentor is meant to be a point of reference for the mentee to the services at the college.
