Geography Open Labs

COVID-19 Update

Thank you for your patience during these very trying times! We will get through this, and we look forward to once again welcoming you in the Open Labs face-to-face!As you are aware, Douglas College has moved away from face-to-face assistance.  Rest assured, your lab technicians are committed to ensuring you still get the help you need so that you can successfully complete your coursework.  Please see below for more details.

Geography and the Environment maintains two Open Labs, one on each of our campuses, and both are staffed by dedicated Lab Technicians. These spaces provide a great place to work on your geography labs and coursework, especially if you need some help understanding geography course materials, need to use a computer or research a topic, or want to meet with other students.

Our open labs are available to all students during posted hours.

Lab locations

Contacting your lab technicians for assistance

If you'd like to reach Sabrina and Sasha for assistance, we will be available remotely from Monday to Friday between 9:30 AM and 4:30 PM.  These are the ways to get in touch with us:

Email us

We will read and respond to emails during the times listed above.  Please be patient as we may be dealing with multiple emails, some of which may require a more thorough response.  If you do not receive a reply right away, it is simply because we are backed up.  We will respond as soon as we are able to.  We will do our best.

Phone us

You are welcome to call or leave a voicemail during the times listed above. Please do not call us outside of these hours.

Videoconference

If your inquiry requires us to draw something or you would like to see us virtually face-to-face, we can set up an online videoconference with you. Please note that you will need a computer with a camera and microphone in order to take advantage of this service.  We will set this up with you individually either via email or phone, depending on the situation.

What is available in the Open Labs?

Assistance

Whether you need clarification of course material or assistance with your labs or research, help is available during posted lab hours. If you are interested in going further in geography, come and chat about various course and program options here and at our local universities, and find out what you can do with a degree in geography!

Course material

If you are looking for supplemental course materials, labs are equipped with additional textbooks, atlases, maps, stereoscopes, air photos, weather software, minerals and rocks to help you get the most from your courses.

Computers

Labs are equipped with PCs, scanners and laser printers for all your computing and online needs. You will also find geography-specific software on these computers and a collaboration station at our New West Lab. Nine additional computers are available at David Lam in room B2210 when classes are not in session.
