General New Student Orientation Sessions

Get ready for your first semester by attending an in-person General New Student Orientation Session! They are designed for both domestic and international new students, and are open to parents and supporters as well. During the sessions, we will:

  • give you a look at life on campus through activities

  • walk you through the new student checklist

  • introduce you to student services which support your Douglas journey

Come to connect with peers and have your questions answered! You are welcome to attend the one where you have most of your classes, or to attend both to explore the two campuses.

For domestic students

Learn how to register for courses by attending a Registration Workshop online! You will learn how to choose your courses, when to register for courses and how. This is also an opportunity to ask Enrolment Services Advisors questions about course registration.

Please note that information shared in this workshop is not applicable to international new students due to a different course registration procedure.

Peer Tutors from the Learning Centre will share strategies to help you get ready for your first semester by creating a study schedule, note-taking strategies, active reading, communicating with your instructor, etc. Join us to learn all the handy tips to be a successful Douglas College student and get a chance to win a gift card!

In this workshop, learn why academic integrity is important in your studies and the risks and consequences of academic misconduct. Find out what is expected of students at Douglas College, including the mandatory course DCUE 0100 - Academic Integrity.

  • Meet the Douglas College International (DCI) team, learn about our services and how we can support you throughout your time at Douglas College. 
  • Listen to an overview of medical insurance including Guard.Me, BC's Medical Services Plan (MSP) and the DSU's Health & Dental Plan. 
  • Learn important information regarding your travels to Canada including documents required to enter and arriving at YVR. 
  • The session will end with a Q&A where you can ask our team your questions.

Online orientation course

DCUE 0200 - New Student Orientation is a self-paced online course designed for new Douglas College students. It lives on Blackboard and it covers all the basics of how to get ready for your first semester here. Learn about all the new student essentials such as how to get your student ID card and where to get your textbooks. Discover the services available to you as a Douglas College student. Plus, find out how you can get involved in the College community.

This online course should not be considered a substitute for the General New Student Orientation Sessions.

New students will be automatically enrolled into this course around the 1st week of April. Please check under the "Courses" section on your Blackboard. If you do not see the course on your Blackboard by April 13, contact studentlife@douglascollege.ca.
