College initiatives
At Douglas College, we’re committed to creating an inclusive, sustainable and supportive campus where everyone feels like they belong. Our key initiatives and programs reflect our dedication to building a welcoming campus community.
Accessibility Plan
Douglas College has a long history of promoting accessibility. This Accessibility Plan, 2023-2026, is the first high-level iteration of the College's efforts to date - taking stock of the many accessibility initiatives and supports already in place - and a catalogue of barriers that persist.
The Plan aims to establish the baseline for a renewed commitment on our journey to improve accessibility to our campuses, programs and services; and second, to outline a roadmap for where this journey will take us over the next three years and beyond.
Providing feedback on the Plan
We're happy to receive comments and questions about this Accessibility Plan - they play a key role in helping the College stay in tune with our community's needs.

Equity, diversity and inclusion
Douglas College is dedicated to fostering an equitable, accessible, diverse and inclusive campus where all people feel a sense of belonging. We do this by:
- Proactively identifying and addressing barriers and biases to ensure that our systems, and structures are equitable and free from racism and other forms of discrimination.
- Embedding equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in our institutional culture, structures, policies and practices. Regularly evaluating and measuring our progress towards diversity, accessibility, employment equity and experience of inclusion and belonging.

This Strategy is the first of its kind, with a College-wide focus on the mental well-being of all our community members. It will serve as a catalyst for engagement, dialogue and actionable initiatives.

Climate action and environmental sustainability
As B.C.'s largest college, Douglas has a responsibility to play a leadership role in the transition to a sustainable economy.
Our Strategic Plan outlines initiatives designed to move us toward a zero‑carbon, more sustainable future. These initiatives include reducing the environmental impact of our facilities and operations, expanding curriculum focused on climate change and sustainability, increasing community engagement on these issues and ensuring that our administrative policies and processes consistently incorporate climate and sustainability considerations.
