Course descriptionThe course will provide an introductory and preparatory framework for those who are or will be called to care for seniors. Learners will include spouses, adult children, friends and relatives of aging adults.

Course content

Modules are self paced and online and include the following seniors' care topics:

  • medical terms and conditions
  • healthcare systems
  • personal care and equipment
  • financial and legal considerations
  • housing and advocacy
  • caregiver wellness and supports
Instructional methodA Douglas College instructor will guide and support students through optional weekly Zoom sessions and discussion boards. 
NotePlease note that this course does not meet the requirements for registration as a Health Care Assistant and Community Worker with the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry and does not permit graduates to obtain a registry number with the BCCAHWR.
