Progress through five weeks of intensive, hands-on learning covering flower preparation and care, vase arrangements, bouquet design, wearable florals, large-scale arrangements and floral arches, creative techniques and seasonal design.
The program is designed to progressively build your skills from little or no previous floral design experience. By the end of the five weeks, you’ll have developed a broad practical foundation to create independently, explore opportunities in the floral industry, or take the first steps toward offering your own floral services or building a floral business.

10+ floral arrangements to take home!
Flowers change throughout the year, and floral design changes with them. You’ll work with seasonal flowers, colours and materials while developing techniques that can be adapted to different seasons, styles and occasions.
Seasonal projects are incorporated based on the timing of the course, giving you the opportunity to apply your skills to designs relevant throughout the year.
Learn from Ekroop Chera, a local floral designer and entrepreneur with experience through EM Floral Design and the family-run Queen’s Park Florist in New Westminster.
The program brings local industry experience directly into the classroom, connecting your learning with the knowledge and experience of a working floral business in the community. You’ll benefit from Ekroop’s experience creating everyday arrangements, special-occasion florals and larger creative projects.
Her experience combines floral design with the practical side of working in the industry, from creating customized arrangements to seasonal florals and larger creative projects.
Throughout the program, Ekroop will demonstrate techniques, guide you through hands-on projects and share practical knowledge from her experience in floral design.
Floral design can be a creative outlet, a professional skill or the beginning of a business idea.
The skills you develop can provide a foundation to explore opportunities in flower shops and floral studios, create arrangements for clients and special events, build a portfolio, offer your own floral services or explore starting a floral business.

Week 1: Floral Foundations & Vase Design
Flower and greenery theory, floral design rules and colour theory, flower preparation and care, rehydration, wiring, stem cutting, floral preservatives, foliage removal, vase arrangements and gridding techniques.
