Welcome to the Faculty of Health Sciences
The Health Sciences Faculty has a 50-year history of delivering high-quality, professional health science programs. Health Sciences at Douglas College combines expert instruction, cutting edge technology, and evidence-based learning methods to ensure students are ready to join their chosen profession and career upon graduation. With experience, graduates undertake professions in education, research, leadership, and practice in a range of specialist fields. A variety of value-added experiences are also available, such as global education in Ghana, rural and indigenous health care and specialty pathways for students in the Bachelor’s programs.
Currently, certificates, diplomas, and degrees are offered in:
- Continuing Education (certificates)
- Health Care Assistant (certificate)
- Mental Health and Substance Use Work (certificate)
- Medical Office Assistant (certificate)
- Health Information Management (post degree diploma) – open to international students
- Health Information Management (Bachelor’s degree)
- Licensed Practical Nursing to Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Nursing (Bachelor’s degree)
- Nursing (bachelor's degree) – (limited number of openings for international students)
- Psychiatric Nursing (bachelor's degree) -- (limited number of openings for international students)
Students are provided with opportunities to utilize and expand their skill sets, including research, with program and conference opportunities in a variety of regional, national, and global settings. Health care careers provide an excellent future, with graduates immediately obtaining employment locally and regionally.
Additionally, Health Sciences offers Continuing Education programs and courses which deliver which professional development opportunities that support students’ growth and expansion of targeted specialist knowledge and skills. Many Douglas degree-program graduates advance their knowledge, skills, and abilities through continuing education.
Health Science graduates often further their education to the next level and are sought after as employees – provincially, nationally, and internationally.
