The Lather Apprentice Program runs for 17 weeks and prepares youth, women, and newcomers to enter skilled trades careers. The program delivers customized training that equips participants to achieve Level 1 Certification as a Lather/Interior Systems Mechanic, setting them on the path toward a Red Seal endorsement.

Participants gain hands-on experience installing ceiling frameworks for suspended and direct-contact systems, constructing interior and exterior walls, and applying fire, sound, and thermal separation techniques. The program also develops skills in workplace safety, operating lifts, and interpreting blueprints, ensuring participants graduate job-ready and confident in their trade.

Program eligibility

  • Youth (ages 18-30), women and newcomers;
  • Forestry impacted workers;
  • Current and past EI / BCEA clients;
  • Legally able to work in Canada;
  • WorkBC case manager confirmation of eligibility.
