Douglas College is committed to fostering an equitable, accessible, diverse and inclusive campus community where all people feel a sense of belonging. As part of this commitment, the College will be reporting gender-based pay information on an annual basis. This also fulfills the requirement of the provincial government’s Pay Transparency Act, which aims to help close the gender pay gap in B.C. and address systemic discrimination in the workplace.
When reviewing our 2025 report, the following points are helpful to keep in mind:
- The average hourly wages for women are 3% more than men.
- Relatively few employees self-disclosed as non-binary. As a result, this gender category has been suppressed in certain graphics.
- For those employees self-disclosing as non-binary, approximately half held roles designed to be entry level and short term in nature (i.e., Student Assistants). This has resulted in overall lower hourly earnings for this gender category during the reporting period.
- Approximately one-third of College employees occupy positions that attract overtime pay. This is reflected in the overtime graphic.
- The prefer not to say/unknown gender category includes those who expressly stated a preference not to disclose their gender, as well as those who did not respond.
