The Douglas College Community Music School has provided music training to New Westminster and surrounding communities since 1984. The school is made up of highly qualified, experienced teachers. Classes are held at the New Westminster Campus. The College has well-equipped teaching studios, classrooms, rehearsal rooms, practice studios, a music technology lab and two full-range recording studios. Concerts and recitals are held in the 350-seat Laura C. Muir Performing Arts Theatre.
We offer a variety of courses for youth and adult students, including summer programs. Our offerings include group classes, Youth and Adult ensembles, and classes including Teaching for Musicians, Audio Engineering, Business of Music, and others.
Students come for a wide range of experiences. Some work toward meeting requirements for college or university entrance. Others come purely for personal enjoyment. Many students will prepare for exams, festivals and/or competitions and develop valuable career skills. There are also a number of partial scholarships available for students enrolled in the CMS.
