DCI Ambassador FAQ
Unibuddy is a student chat platform embedded on the Douglas College International website that connects current Douglas international students to prospective international students. There's nothing like talking to a peer about their college experiences!
As a DCI Ambassador, you will represent Douglas College by interacting with prospective students and their families to help them learn about the college and provide guidance regarding joining Douglas.
A DCI Ambassador would be required to sign up and create a Unibuddy account when joining the DCI Ambassador program. Training on how to use the Unibuddy platform will be provided as part of your onboarding process to the program.
Unibuddy appears as a bubble chat function on the Douglas College International page for prospective international students to join, ask questions and directly chat with a DCI Ambassador about their Douglas experience.
Prospective international students will be able to view the DCI Ambassador’s profile on Douglas College’s website, and choose to chat with an ambassador based on the program of choice, shared interest, languages, etc.
Prospective international students will also be required to sign up for Unibuddy before chatting with an ambassador.
Interacting with a Douglas College staff member can be overwhelming to some prospective students. Chatting with a current international student may give them the confidence and guidance needed to make an informed decision and smooth transition into college life.
Unibuddy is similar to a social network which gives both DCI Ambassadors and prospective students lots of flexibility and is also available as a mobile app. DCI Ambassadors can log in and reply to inquiries on their mobile device anywhere with Internet access.
You will mostly work online and from anywhere you like as long as you have access to internet. In-person recruitment, DCI International events and training sessions may occasionally be required.
The program is free of charge for both DCI Ambassadors and prospective international students.
Sign-up sheets will be available for events in advance, and a DCI Ambassador can sign up on first come first served basis. The number of available slots for volunteers will be indicated on the sign-up sheet.
For general department or another events such as Orientation, International Days, etc., you will receive notifications from the program coordinators.
This program is an ongoing program. However, we encourage volunteers to stay with us for at least one semester.
A DCI Ambassador is a volunteer position. At the end of your volunteer term, you may have a chance to obtain a Certificate of Participation, a Reference Letter and an honorarium, depending on your performance.
For volunteering opportunities assisting prospective domestic students as well as community outreach, please contact Future Students' Office.
You may volunteer at several Douglas College departments and in the community at the same time.
