Effective April 1, 2026, Douglas College Sports Institute will no longer offer the A-Z Personal Trainer programs and the Pilates Certification program.

The Douglas College Personal Training Module, provides the skills and certification to stand out in this growing field. Personal trainers specialize in designing and leading safe, effective exercise programs to help clients achieve their health and fitness goals. They assess individual fitness levels, create customized workout plans, and provide the motivation and accountability clients need to succeed.

Module Overview

The Personal Training Module is the final step toward becoming a Certified Personal Trainer. Building on the knowledge gained in the Weight Training Module, it fulfills the requirements to register with the BCRPA as a Personal Trainer.

Through hands-on practice and expert instruction, you’ll learn to conduct client consultations, fitness assessments, and health appraisals; design safe, effective, and individualized programs; and develop the communication, business, and marketing skills needed to thrive in today’s fitness industry.

Successful completion prepares you to challenge the BCRPA Personal Training Instructor Competency Evaluation (ICE) and Personal Trainer Exam.

Module (3) Prerequisites:
Full registration as a Weight Trainer with the BCRPA which includes successful completion of the following:

  • Registered Fitness Leader with the BCRPA (OR) First Year Fitness Registration- active
  • Weight Training Instructor Competency Evaluation (ICE)-complete
  • BCRPA personal trainer prerequisite "12 Program Log" - complete

Module Recommended Materials: Resources are available online via Blackboard and in the DC Library. Students may purchase materials independently, but this is not required.

  • National Strength and Conditioning Association. (2022). NSCA’s Essentials of Personal Training (3rd ed.). Human Kinetics.
  • Vella, M. (2006). Anatomy for Strength and Fitness Training: An Illustrated Guide to Your Muscles in Action. McGraw-Hill.

Note: Come dressed in fitness wear for classes.

Module Completion Requirements: Upon completing Module 3, students will ready to take the Personal Trainer ICE Evaluations and Exam (BCRPA).

  • Retake of BCRPA PT ICE evaluation
    Students are responsible for scheduling and payment for any ICE retakes.
  • Rewrite of BCRPA Personal Training Exam
    Students are responsible for scheduling and payment for any exam rewrites; payments are to be made directly to BCRPA.

    These are NOT part of the Module fee and students are required to register and purchase these on their own; payment directly to external institutions, bodies and/or persons.

The cost of the Personal Training Module (3) is $600,00 +GST and includes:

  • Personal Training in-person classes held at Douglas College (New Westminster Campus).
  • Personal Training ICE (BCRPA) in-person evaluation, held at Douglas College (New Westminster Campus).
  • Personal Training Exam preparation
  • Personal Training Exam (BCRPA) in-person evaluation, held at Douglas College (New Westminster Campus).
  • Online materials via Blackboard

To register for modules in the program, students must contact the Continuing Education Registration Office (CE Reg):

  • Complete the registration form and submit it to cereg@douglascollege.ca via email. 

    Specify the CRNs of the modules you wish to register for in the form. CRNs can be found on the individual module pages.

    Ensure you enter all CRNs for your chosen module. Please read the additional instructions provided on the registration form.

  • After submitting your completed form, a Registration Officer will respond with further instructions on payment options. 

    Once registration is processed, you will receive an email with payment instructions. Students must submit payment within 24 hours to complete registration. Students will only receive a payment confirmation email receipt once payment is received.

  • Registration is not complete until payment has been received by Douglas College. A confirmation email receipt will be sent once payment is processed.

    Please note: due to the high volume of registrations, responses may be delayed.
