Our online part-time program is the first formal post-secondary training program in British Columbia for this type of one-on-one work.

Best Instructors

Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) courses are taught by Board Certified Behaviour Analysts.

Career Advancement

Behavioural Interventionists (BI) who want to advance further in this career can enter degree programs and take the Disability and Applied Behaviour Analyst (DABA) Certificate program to become professional Behaviour Consultants.

Through our online part time program you’ll get the specialized skills you need to make a difference for children who have ASD, using Behaviour Intervention based on applied behaviour analysis (ABA) therapy.

Get transfer credit and/or Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) for previous related classroom or two years minimum of work experience in the field.

Up to 50% transferable into the Education Assistance and Inclusion Certificate and Classroom and Community Support Diploma program.

Why specialize in ASD?

Recognition of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in Canada has risen rapidly within the past decade. Once thought to be rare, it is now the most common neurological disability affecting children today (approximately one in 66 children in B.C.). Currently, more than 13,000 children in B.C. receive autism intervention funds from the Ministry of Children and Family Development, but B.C. families report difficulty finding appropriately trained Behaviour Interventionists (BI).

Graduates of this program are in extremely high demand. Education Assistants who take this program are prepared to work in inclusive classrooms and one-on-one with students who have autism using ABA methodology.

Testimonials

"I am a graduate of the Behaviour Intervention Certificate program, and a mom to a child with autism. I decided to apply to the program after seeing how my son was thriving with the support of his Behavior Interventionists. All the courses in the BI certificate are online; I was able to complete my first two semesters while I was on maternity leave with my youngest son. The knowledge I have gained from this program has broadened my understanding of autism and disability studies, and how to support positive behaviour change. I’m now considering finding employment as a Behavior Interventionist because I’m confident I have the knowledge and skills to make a difference in the lives of children and families."

"I am a past MCFD Sponsored Online Autism Outreach Training student and I am now on my last semester of the Behaviour Intervention Certificate. This course was perfect as it was all online so I could still work. I found the Lab to be very unique as you get to watch yourself implement an intervention through taping it. It made me a very confident BI after hearing some good feedback from my teacher and peers. After finishing the 2 MCFD sponsored courses I decided I would enrol in the full BI certificate program to expand my knowledge further. Since I already had 6 credits from the MCFD course I had less work to do in the BI certificate which was great as I am now a nearly full time lead BI on my teams."
