Course content

Modules are self paced and online and include the following seniors' care topics:

  • medical terms and conditions
  • healthcare systems
  • personal care and equipment
  • financial and legal considerations
  • housing and advocacy
  • caregiver wellness and supports
Instructional methodA Douglas College instructor will guide and support students through optional weekly Zoom sessions and discussion boards.

Mary Caros Second Picture

Mary Caros is an educator and community development professional with extensive experience supporting seniors and family caregivers. Mary has cared for her own parents and aging family members and is passionate about helping caregivers feel informed, confident, and supported as they navigate the complexities of aging and care. Through this course, she combines lived experience, current resources, and thoughtful discussion to help learners better understand both the challenges and possibilities of caring for older adults.

NotePlease note that this course does not meet the requirements for registration as a Health Care Assistant and Community Worker with the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry and does not permit graduates to obtain a registry number with the BCCAHWR.
