Become a marketing expert and help businesses grow. The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Marketing offers a combination of business and marketing courses, work experience with local businesses, hands-on skills with industry-specific software and the flexibility to enter the marketing degree from multiple touch points. Whether you have just graduated high school, are currently attending Douglas or you already have some education at another post-secondary institution — you’ll be able to start, continue and finish your degree at Douglas College.
What is a marketing degree like?
In your first two years, you’ll take core business and marketing courses that will give you a full picture of what a career in the marketing industry looks like. You’ll get to take courses in marketing research, promotional strategy, management essentials, buyer behaviour, a marketing practicum and more. Then in your final two years, you’ll choose an area of concentration.
Choose a concentration for your degree
The Marketing degree offers a number of concentrations to choose from that will help you build industry-relevant skills for your career path. See the Concentrations tab for more information.
Get valuable work experience
In the Business Internship Program, you’ll apply the theory and knowledge you’ve learned in class into a real-world business setting. During your unpaid part-time internship, you’ll be assigned tasks and projects that junior management, marketing, business, administrative and/or sales employees complete in the modern workplace.
To be accepted into the internship program, you must contact the Career Centre early in your studies at Douglas College.
You will also need work experience in order to complete BUSN 4500, the capstone course in this program, which requires you to have 500 hours of Canadian work experience. Hours gained through Co-operative Education and volunteer positions may be used to satisfy this component. See Program Requirements for more details.
Is marketing in demand as a career?
Yes, over 5,000 marketing and advertising job openings are expected in BC for the next ten years. You can also expect a median salary of $59,586 once you graduate, with many opportunities to grow within the industry. Plus, with the career development course, you’re required to find and complete 500 hours of work experience outside of the marketing degree. You'll graduate with the skills and knowledge needed to stand out in the job market.
Applicants must meet the admission requirements listed below:
In addition, applicants seeking the Concentration in Trades Marketing have additional admission requirements because they receive credit for industry training and work experience. These additional requirements can be found on the following program page:
