The Diploma in Foundation for Music Therapy Studies (FMTS) program provides you with the foundational music skills and knowledge necessary for a career in music therapy. In the program, you'll focus on improving your music literacy and performance ability with guitar, piano and voice. You'll even have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of ensembles for hands-on experience, including concert band, chorus, guitar ensemble and more.
As part of your education at Douglas, you'll work with a certified music therapist so you can receive practical advice and guidance while you plan your career. You'll get to further advance your career path through a supervised work placement in health-care or childcare settings.
The FMTS Diploma also offers an opportunity for further education, providing the prerequisites for third-year entry into Capilano University’s Bachelor of Music Therapy program, currently the only provider of a music therapy degree in British Columbia.
