GIVE THE GIFT OF SUCCESS TO DOUGLAS COLLEGE STUDENTS IN NEED.

On this Giving Tuesday, you can help remove barriers faced every day by our students to ensure they continue on a pathway to success. A gift of support today to the Student Aid Fund, large or small, will have an immediate impact, helping to provide funding to fill the gaps to make a difference each and every day.

What is Giving Tuesday?

Giving Tuesday is the world’s largest generosity movement. Founded in 2013, this day of philanthropy has grown into a global movement with hundreds of millions of people participating in whatever ways they can.

For Douglas College staff, faculty and admin, Foundation and Alumni Relations wanted to share words of gratitude from our students on this day to highlight the impact that philanthropy has on our students and invite you to become a part of our donor family. For those of you that already give, thank you for continued support of our students.

Words of Thanks

Good Afternoon,

My name is Brianna W., and I have been the recipient of three awards and bursaries since starting my education path at Douglas College. I wanted to send along a note to say thank-you to all donors; ones that have supported me directly, as well as others that support so many students in similar positions. I can only do my best to express my gratitude through this note, but there truly are no words that can accurately portray how thankful I am.

I am turning 28 years old this year and I always feel I'm a little late to the game compared to my peers. After graduating high school in 2012, I struggled with a lot of issues including mental health and addiction. I dug myself into debt for some time, taking out school loans from the government while not taking my post-secondary education seriously.

Years later, I am happy and thriving and so excited to be successfully working towards my ideal career goal. My teachers have been amazing guides, and I am working towards taking on my first job in the Exploration and Mining sector this summer. Choosing to attend Douglas College was the best decision I could have made.

Awards and bursaries like the ones I received help me achieve my education and career goals. Not only do they remove financial stress so I can concentrate worry-free on my studies, but they also help me avoid taking on even more student loan debt as I continue at Douglas College.

Thank you, donors, for all the support you provide students at Douglas College; for helping us achieve our goals and dreams. I am, and always will be, extremely grateful for all that I have received.

With love,
Brianna W.

Join Our Donor Community

On this Giving Tuesday, we would love for you to join our donor community at Douglas College and help fill the gap for students needing support to overcome everyday barriers. Faced with inflation and a high cost of living, our students need access to funding to overcome daily life obstacles such as food security, transportation, mobility challenges, access to technology, medical costs, etc. – areas that aren’t covered under emergency funding opportunities. Funds to address and remove these barriers will truly make a difference to our students.

Any gift you make toward the Student Aid Fund on this Giving Tuesday, from a couple of dollars from every pay-cheque to a one-time gift, will go toward helpings students who face these everyday barriers. Students like Madison and Brianna need more support than ever. If you can help on this day of giving, we hope you will consider making a gift to support our students.

All payroll donations and gifts by faculty, staff and admin will be matched by the College dollar-for-dollar, thus doubling the impact. Additionally, tax receipts will be issued for you at year-end.

On behalf of our students, thank you so much for your support on this Giving Tuesday!
