Learning activities are varied and chosen to align with course outcomes. Learning activities may include, but are not limited to, lecture, independent study, problem-based learning, software applications, hands-on experience, seminar, simulation, and role-playing.
Assessment will be based on course outcomes and follow the Douglas College Evaluation Policy. An evaluation schedule is presented at the beginning of the course. This is a graded course. To graduate from the MOA program, students must earn a passing grade of 65% (C+) in this course.
Upon successful completion of the course, within their scope of practice, students will be able to:
- Apply clinical office procedures related to typical interactions with patients and families;
- Demonstrate situational awareness in the examination of scenarios in healthcare;
- Analyze and reflect on the impact of chronic healthcare conditions on patients' overall well-being;
- Apply conflict resolution skills, defuse a variety of challenging patient situations in a simulated medical setting;
- Demonstrate production of medical documents from a variety of transcription files, incorporating accuracy and proofreading skills;
- Demonstrate professional communication techniques when working in a simulated medical office or hospital setting;
- Show problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making when performing the activities of a Medical Office Assistant (MOA) in a simulated medical office or hospital setting;
- Demonstrate a practice interview for an MOA position, including an interview process that incorporates a cover letter, resume, and reference list relevant to a specific advertised position that aligns with the student’s professional interests and aptitude.
Textbooks and materials are to be purchased by students. A list of required textbooks and materials is provided to students at the beginning of the semester.

A minimum grade of 65% (or C+) in
MOAD 1100
And
MOAD 1200 (or minimum grade of 60% or C in OADM 1151; or minimum grade of MAS in OADM 1206 and 60% or C in OADM 1244)
And
MOAD 1300 (or minimum grade of 60% or C in OADM 1246)
And
MOAD 1400 (or minimum grade of 60% or C in OADM 1114)
And
MOAD 1500 (or minimum grade of 60% or C in OADM 1325)
