Academic and Professional Profile:
As a graduate student I developed a keen interest in teaching and taught university level courses in a number of diverse settings such as a First Nations village in northern British Columbia and a maximum security prison. I was also a Psychology Lab assistant at Douglas in the mid 1980s. In the 32 years I have taught, I have been actively involved in a number of teaching related activities including the publication of teaching related journal articles and book chapters, creation of test banks, computer programs, a study guide and guest editor of a teaching journal. I am also on the editorial board for three teaching related journals (Psychology Teaching Review, Psychology, Learning and Teaching, and Frontiers and Education: Educational Psychology), and a committee member and past secretary general of the International Council of Psychology Educators. I am also involved in the planning committee of three different international conferences on the teaching of psychology. Of these, the main one I am involved with is the Vancouver International Conference on the Teaching of Psychology which I founded in 2007 and still organize today. Over the years I have had a number of research interests, publishing and presenting at international conferences on teaching, critical thinking, hemispheric specialization, face identification, and creativity.
Teaching Concentrations:
I am currently teaching introductory psychology and cognitive psychology. I have also taught critical thinking and pseudoscience, law and psychology, perception, social psychology, consumer psychology, research methods, consciousness, biopsychology, and memory.
