Medical Office Administration (MOA) revision elevates program’s health care focus

Douglas College’s Certificate in Medical Office Administration (MOA) program has been revised, now providing students with more opportunities to gain health care skills and networking opportunities.

This revision is part of a strategic shift from the Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration to the Faculty of Health Sciences, which enhances the program’s focus on medical terminology, critical thinking and situational awareness. Students will also receive instruction in anatomy, physiology fundamentals, a range of software and equipment used in medical practices, and gain an overview of clinical and administrative procedures to better support patients and health care providers.

Graduates will leave Douglas with high-demand knowledge and experience to succeed in the industry, from essential administrative skills like computer applications, keyboarding and business communication to health care-specific learning in medical terminology, clinical medical procedures, medical billing, record management, requisitions and referrals, data privacy and confidentiality, and more.

With a three-week practicum built into the program and access to experiential simulation labs, students gain hands-on experience that will prepare them to work in a medical facility in as little as nine months.

This program, which meets the standards set out by the Canadian College of Health Information Management (CCHIM) for the Health Information-Certified Associate (HICA) national certification exam (NCE), is a full-time or part-time program with courses that combine in-person and online learning channels, offering students flexible options while setting them apart in the healthcare job market.

Applications for the Fall 2025 and Winter 2026 semesters are now open.
