Transcend universes with Douglas College’s performance of The Whole Shebang

What if the entire universe was just some nerd’s science project? In a dimension far from our own, a student presents their theory on the creation of the heavens and the Earth – much to the dismay of their teachers.

Directed by Claire Fogal, Rich Orloff’s The Whole Shebang tackles the larger questions of humanity through a lighthearted, comedic lens while unravelling the meaning of life on Earth, the true purpose of sexuality and the superiority of cows.

“With all the violence, racism and climate change going on in the world today, it’s easy to feel bleak about humanity’s track record and tendencies. It can feel like our voices aren’t being heard when we try to make a difference,” said Fogal. “Amidst the laughs, there’s a reminder to treasure the Earth itself, to savour the simple things in life and to value most of all those we love.”

Presented by the Douglas College departments of Theatre and Stagecraft & Event Technology, The Whole Shebang opens March 15 at 7:30pm in the New Westminster Campus’s Laura C. Muir Theatre.

“I hope audience members will be so busy laughing that the overall message of joy, delight and hope comes through loud and clear,” said Fogal. “Comedy always reminds us that humanity’s ability to laugh at ourselves and appreciate the absurdities of life is one of our biggest strengths.”

The cast of The Whole Shebang includes Gabriel Eum (South Korea), Janis Paraworasakul (Thailand), Jaime Lien (Langley), Loralei Teetzen (Surrey), Elahe Ghamat (Iran), Kyra Mantas (Richmond) and Parniyan Agha Saeedi (Iran).
