Douglas College awards two faculty members prestigious Emeriti designations

Honouring their commitment to innovation and leadership in their respective fields, Douglas College presented Dr. Steve Charlton and Yvonne Savard with Faculty Emeriti titles at the Employee Recognition Celebration at the New Westminster Campus March 1.

The Douglas College Emeritus/Emerita designation is an honorary title given to retired faculty, staff and administrators in acknowledgement of their excellence and distinguished service to Douglas College.

“This award recognizes the outstanding contributions of retired faculty to their students, their colleagues and the College overall,” said Dr. Kathy Denton, President of Douglas College. “These faculty members raise the bar and make Douglas an institution of first choice.”

Dr. Steve Charlton, faculty in the Psychology Department, was recognized for many years of teaching psychology at Douglas College. Steve is known as an exceptional educator, supportive colleague and valued mentor. His colleagues in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences recognized his role in advancing the field of Psychology through his research and appreciated his involvement in organizing international conferences on teaching psychology.

Yvonne Savard, faculty in the Department of Psychiatric Nursing, was acknowledged for more than two decades of outstanding service at the College. Her colleagues described her as a thought leader and mentor who consistently promoted student success. Savard was also recognized for her high ethical standards and notable contributions to health care regulation at the provincial level.

Charlton and Savard join more than 50 retired Douglas faculty and administrative members who have received the honorary designation since its inception in 2005.
