Turkey and Syria earthquake supports for students and employees

On February 5, 2023, southern Turkey and northern Syria experienced a devastating earthquake that resulted in a considerable loss of life, injured thousands more and severely impacted the ability of families to connect.   

Douglas College is a close-knit community. If you see someone struggling in the wake of this disaster, or for any reason, please let them know you care and remind them of the supports available below.    

For students:   

  • Student Success Advisors (SSAs) -- Each Douglas College student has a Student Success Advisor they can go to for academic support and financial concerns. SSAs can also ensure that students are linked to other services within the College, as appropriate.

  • Douglas College Counselling -- Douglas College students have access to free, accessible and confidential support through the student counselling office.  Crisis appointments are available daily.   

  • Here2Talk -- Registered B.C. post-secondary students (domestic and international) have access to this free, 24/7, confidential counselling and community referral services available via app, phone and web.   

For employees:   

  • Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) -- Homewood Health, the Douglas College Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) provides 24/7 confidential, professional assistance to help Douglas College employees and their family members with concerns that affect their personal and work lives.
