New agreement paves way for Douglas College engineering students to complete their degree at UBC
Engineering students at Douglas College can now complete their bachelor’s degree at one of Canada’s top universities.
Douglas has partnered with the University of British Columbia on an agreement that provides engineering students from Douglas with a guaranteed transfer pathway into the second year of a bachelor’s degree in engineering at the university, provided they meet the required GPA.
“The University of British Columbia offers one of the most modern and competitive engineering programs in the country. By entering into this transfer agreement, Douglas students will have more options available to help them achieve their academic and career goals,” said Brian Chapell, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology at Douglas College.
Students who complete Douglas’s two-year Diploma in Engineering and Fabrication Technologies receive both academic credits, as well as the hands-on experience that helps differentiate them from their peers once they transfer to UBC Engineering.
“Our diploma students acquire an invaluable set of fabrication and prototyping skills that will help them stand apart from other students when applying for co-op jobs as part of their future engineering education. They also complete additional second-year academic courses that lighten their course load and provide a more successful transition once they start their studies at UBC,” said Allan Majdanac, Engineering Program Coordinator at Douglas College.
Students who complete the one-year Engineering Foundations Certificate are also eligible for the guaranteed transfer pathway to UBC, provided they complete two additional courses and meet the GPA requirements.
The transfer agreement is effective June 2019.
Douglas College is the largest degree-granting college in B.C., combining the academic foundations of a university and the employer-ready skills of a college to provide the most relevant and inspiring undergraduate experience in British Columbia.
