program overview
The Medical Office Assistant (MOA) Certificate Program trains students in procedures for medical office administration, including communicating accurately with medical professionals and patients. Students take courses such as anatomy, physiology, medical transcription, medical and pharmaceutical terminology, and patient scheduling and billing. The program includes a three-week practicum.

NOTE: International students are not currently eligible for this program. For more information, contact Douglas College International.

Graduation Requirements:

  • Successful completion of 30 credits
  • 25% (8 credits) of all coursework must be completed at Douglas College *
  • All courses must be completed with a minimum grade of “C” or higher except Mastery graded course(s).
  • Time Limit for Completion: 4 years from acceptance into the program.

*Effective for Summer 2017 graduation, a minimum of 50% of the required program courses must be taken at Douglas College.

career transfer pathways
Graduates of the Medical Office Assistant (MOA) Certificate Program work as skilled MOAs who manage offices and communicate effectively with medical professionals and patients. After one year's experience, MOAs are eligible to write the Medical Office Assistant of B.C. registration examination. 
Further Education 
Graduates can choose to complete another year of studies at Douglas College to earn an Office Administration Diploma. The Diploma transfers to Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Entrepreneurial Leadership.
admission requirements

Applicants must meet the admission requirements listed below:

  • General College Admission Requirements (excluding Language Proficiency Requirement)
  • English 11 with a grade of "C" or better or the following exemptions:
    • EN 12 "P"
    • EN LIT 12 "P"
    • TPC 12 "P"
    • COMM 12 "C+"
  • Keyboarding speeds:
    • Full-time students require 25 net words per minute.
    • Part-time students do not require a specific keyboarding speed for entry; however, students must provide proof of keyboarding speed before registration in any course which has a keyboarding prerequisite (see the Course Descriptions section of this Catalogue). Students with no previous keyboarding experience may take beginning keyboarding (OADM 1103) during their first semester at the College

Notes:

  • Strong English skills are required. Students who are weak in English skills should consider upgrading through the Developmental Studies or English as a Second Language Program

When offered a full-time seat in this program a non-refundable, non-transferable $350 tuition deposit is required.
