Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- explain resonant leadership skills in sport, physical activity, and coaching;
- apply effective communication and facilitation during leadership tasks involving peers;
- apply principles of personal and socially responsible leadership;
- create synergy within the classroom in a leadership role;
- discuss applications of the community development model and the role of the leader;
- discuss strategies for developing, maintaining, and repairing professional relationships by applying interpersonal skills to build trust and foster collaboration;
- assess personal leadership strengths and areas for growth using self-assessment tools, and develop an actionable plan for leadership development based on self-assessment results;
- apply emotional intelligence skills to manage oneself and influence others in a leadership context;
- discuss qualities and actions of an effective change agent;
- construct clear and compelling vision and mission statements aligned with sport organizational goals;
- apply NCCP coaching behaviours that align with effective leadership and teaching practices.
Assessment will be in accordance with the Douglas College Evaluation Policy. The instructor will present a written course outline with specific evalution criteria at the beginning of the semester. Evaluation will be based on:

Note: Students will need to receive a grade of D or better in the course to be eligible to receive the designation of 'trained status' in the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) module(s) embedded in this course.
