Course description
This two-week extramural session focuses on classification of diagnoses and interventions using ICD-10-CA/CCI from current health records at an advanced level for increasingly complex records. Students will attend, primarily in groups, an acute care health care facility under the supervision of a faculty member or designate.
          Course content
              - Practice classification of diseases and interventions from a variety of complex health records in a health care facility, using ICD-10-CA/CCI classification systems.
- Practice completion of an abbreviated manual version of the discharge abstract.
- Participate in tours, demonstrations, and other relevant activities.
Learning outcomes
In this course students attend a local tertiary health care facility to practice skills in data classification and abstraction. The participant will have opportunity to:
- at an entry-level proficiency, be able to classify diagnosis and interventions from a variety of current health records
- maintain and enhance appreciation for the importance of data integrity
Means of assessment
              Typical evaluations would include:
- Self Assessment
- Reflective Learning Journals
- Test Cases
- Productivity
