Learning Activities

Independent, guided study, with supervision provided as necessary, but not less than weekly throughout the semester.

Course Description
This is a practical, advanced independent study course in theatrical production and design. Students will be involved in the Stagecraft Department productions in one of the following roles: Design Assistant, Stage Manager, Dramaturge, Production Manager, Technical Director or other area of interest. Students will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to the collaborative process and contribute significantly to the production team. Guided studies projects are supervised and evaluated by a faculty member. Before registering, students must submit an application for approval of their guided studies project to the Coordinator of the Stagecraft and Event Technology Department.
Course Content

The course content will be identified in the student’s application, which will include a preliminary list of expectations, materials and resources. The scope and content of the project must be approved by the faculty supervisor and Coordinator of the Stagecraft and Event Technology Department.

Learning Outcomes
  1. To complete an in-depth project in a specific area of theatrical Production or Design, demonstrating an advanced level of technical proficiency in the particular area of study.
  2. To complete a comprehensive project journal documenting the project from beginning to end.
  3. To identify and work within the requirements of a collaborative process.

Successful completion of the specific Production/Design role designated by the project 40%

Textbooks and materials will be identified by the student and supervising faculty member in advance of or during the process of the project.

Prerequisites

Successful completion of Stagecraft and Event Technology Diploma or equivalent, or Theatre Diploma or quivalent, or permission of the Department.
