Volunteer Mentor FAQ

If you meet the criteria, you can become a mentor for the Fall 2021 semester. Summer 2021 registration is now closed.

You will be matched with no more than five mentees.

  1. Sign up to the mentorship program.
  2. Complete all tasks on your checklist.
  3. Receive an email from a Douglas International coordinator.
  4. Attend an introductory session with DI (separate from the video chat training on your checklist).
  5. Return required documents and complete the training.
  6. Wait for your mentees!

No. If you and/or your mentee do not wish to video chat, that is your choice. However, we strongly encourage you to connect with your mentee via video call when needed to check in. It is a great opportunity to get to know each other and build your relationship.

Douglas College uses a management software called Mentor Collective. This is where students can create a profile, complete a survey outlining your personal, career and academic interests, and log conversations after speaking with your mentor/mentee.

Mentee (New International Student) FAQ

If you have completed the survey, please allow until June 11 to be matched. How you respond to the survey factors into which mentor is best to help you in your first semester at Douglas College. We are working to find the best match for you.

No, you cannot. You will have the opportunity to connect with mentors once you are fully registered in your first semester.

The Strong Start Mentorship Program is for free to all students who meet the eligibility criteria.
