Advising services

Academic advising is available through the following services. 

Drop-in sessions

Drop-in sessions are about 20 minutes long and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. When you arrive, you will be asked to register by completing an advising drop-in form. You can register up to 30 minutes prior to each drop-in period.

Anvil Office Tower - 777 Columbia Street Room 717 (starting April 1st: Tue. and Thur. only from 10:30 - 12:30 pm and 2 - 4 pm only)

NW: Drop-in services offered in Glass den (Fishbowl) 10:30 - 12:30 pm and 2 - 4 pm - when available, advising will be offered from 12:30 - 2 pm as well. 

COQ: Drop-in services will remain in the Registrar's Office from 10:30 - 12:30 pm and 2 - 4 pm.

How can I prepare for my drop-in session?

  • Review Douglas College’s  Program and Course Catalogue for your program requirements and review the Course planning pages
  • If you are thinking of transferring to another institution, research the institution and program you are interested in
  • Come prepared with a list of questions
  • For questions about your course selection, review the course schedule through myAccount or the course scheduling tool, and write down the course name, number and CRN for any that you want to discuss with your advisor. 
  • Review the Academic Advising website

Please note: Academic Advisors are not responsible for being familiar with all programs offered by other institutions.

Remember that during peak advising periods (i.e. the Add/Drop period during priority and late registration, after midterms, the end of the semester, etc.), your advisors will be very busy and there may be a delay to email replies or in making an appointment. (Be proactive and meet with your advisors well in advance of registration or other deadlines!)

Email replies may take longer during the first two weeks of classes in a given semester, due to the high volume of emails we receive during this time.

 

A very limited number of evening appointments are available, if you are unable to attend a drop-in session as outlined above. Appointments are only offered on Tuesday evenings at the Coquitlam Campus and Wednesday evenings at the New Westminster Campus from 5-6 pm based on availability. Please note, spaces are limited.
