Overview

Course Description
This course builds on MHPS 1140: Common Health Challenges I. The students will explore common challenges to health and healing in relation to each body system. Students will also be encouraged to explore person-centered practice as it relates to the common challenges to health including and, in particular, to end-of-life care.

Learning Activities

In this course, students engage in a variety of learning activities such as lecture, group work, case studies, and team-based exercises.

Means of Assessment

Assessment will be based on course objectives and will be carried out in accordance with the Douglas College Evaluation Policy. An evaluation schedule is presented at the beginning of the course.

This is a graded course.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  1. Discuss common challenges to health and healing;
  2. Discuss nutrition as it relates to managing common health challenges;
  3. Discuss the components of person-centered, end-of-life care for clients and families.

Prerequisites

Students in the HCA program are required to maintain a passing grade of 65% (C+) in all courses in order to progress in the program.
