English Upgrading

English upgrading courses will help you upgrade your reading and writing skills to increase your success in your other college classes. Options range from basic literacy to college preparatory courses.

English Upgrading for ECE and Child and Youth Care Programs

Our English Upgrading pathway prepares you to meet the English requirement for the Douglas College Early Childhood Education and Child and Youth Care programs.

It's tuition free for domestic applicants. Start in May and your application fee will also be covered.

Email upgrading@douglascollege.ca and ask about the English Upgrading pathway to ECE or Child and Youth Care.

Course Information

Placement testing

Before you register for any ENGU courses, you need to write an English placement test to determine your current written command of English. Once you complete the written test, you'll have a brief interview with an instructor.

There is no need to study or cram before taking your placement test. The tests are purely for placement purposes.

Placements are offered throughout the Fall, Winter and Summer semesters on both campuses, but you must register by calling one of the numbers listed below. Make sure you do your placement test before your course registration date.

Course fees

ENGU and MATU courses are tuition free.

Student fees still apply. For more information on the fee schedule (student fees and U-Pass) contact the English Upgrading Office.
