- Listening skills
- Using the library
- Using reference books
- Setting a purpose for reading
- Scanning for specific information
A variety of teaching methods will be used. There will be small group instruction, individual assistance and student directed learning where appropriate and possible. Collaborative learning will be facilitated.
The student will be expected to attend class regularly, to progress, and to work independently as directed
A mastery model of on-going evaluation will be used. A student will have completed the course when he/she has shown in exercises and assignments that the course objectives have been achieved.
Progress will be monitored on a regular basis by the instructor in consultation with each student.
The aims of the course are for students to:
- learn basic skills necessary to organize materials and time for successful learning;
- practice study, memory and listening techniques for successful learning;
- acquire a basic understanding of resources and procedures of the library;
- learn the uses of basic reference books as study-aids;
- acquire and apply a systematic approach to written material for use when studying or seeking information.
Textbooks and Materials to be Purchased by Students
Students must supply a three-ring binder, paper, pen and pencil.
