Newest Douglas College credential meets demands of growing tech industry by combining project management and IT

Responding to the growing demand for skilled IT project managers, Douglas College is launching a program this Fall that combines the technical knowledge and hands-on experience needed to lead projects in a rapidly evolving industry.

The new Post-Baccalaureate Diploma (PBD) in Information Technology Project Management provides a practical and accessible pathway into the information technology field.

The addition of this program makes Douglas College the only post-secondary institution in B.C. offering a wide range of project management pathways, which include a bachelor’s degree concentration, a one-year post-degree diploma, and two two-year post-baccalaureate diplomas. These pathways provide opportunities for students to further their education and develop core knowledge and skills at any point in their career.

The PBD in IT Project Management is designed for graduates with a bachelor’s degree in any discipline seeking to develop specialized skills or transition into the IT field.

“The Lower Mainland is home to a vibrant and thriving software sector,” said Monica Semeniuk, Business Management Program Coordinator and member of the Project Management Institute. “It’s exciting to help students build transferable skills and launch careers in an industry with strong demand and opportunities both locally and across Canada.”

The PBD also prepares students to earn multiple industry certifications through the Project Management Institute, helping them advance their careers in a competitive job market. Students can gain practical experience through a business internship or co-operative education.

“Having worked with many co-op students, I’ve consistently received positive feedback from employers of all sizes,” said Ivan Wong, Computing Studies and Information Systems Chair. “These hands-on experiences are valuable opportunities for Douglas College students to apply their learning, build professional networks and gain industry experience to graduate with career-ready skills.”

Prospective students can apply online through EducationPlannerBC or contact program coordinators Monica Semeniuk and Ivan Wong for more details.
