In recognition of their exceptional service and leadership, Douglas College awarded Faculty Emeriti titles to Dr. Donald Meen and Dr. Sandi Strate at the Employee Recognition Celebration Friday, Jan. 30, at the New Westminster Campus.
The honorary title of Emeritus/Emerita is given to select retired faculty, staff and administrators in acknowledgement of their excellence and distinguished service to Douglas College.
“The Emeriti designation represents the remarkable contributions of retired faculty to their students, colleagues and the Douglas community,” said Dr. Kathy Denton, President and CEO of Douglas College. “These faculty members have raised the bar and made Douglas College the institution of first choice it is today.”
Dr. Donald Meen, who taught Psychology, was recognized for 35 years of teaching and service excellence at the College. Colleagues described Dr. Meen as a dedicated and exceptional educator, supportive colleague and valued mentor. Known for his pedagogical devotion and authentic joy in teaching, both his contributions to the College and to the field of clinical psychology were acknowledged during the event.
Student counsellor and instructor Dr. Sandi Strate was celebrated for 36 years of service excellence with the Student Affairs and Services Department, and Psychology Department. Her colleagues commended her steadfast calm, exceptional leadership and deep commitment to student well-being among her vast contributions to the College.
Dr. Meen and Dr. Strate join more than 50 retired Douglas faculty and administrative members who have received the honorary designation since its inception in 2005.
