Course Description
This course provides opportunities for individualized study that meets the learning needs of students at the degree level in their third year of study. Working with program faculty, students will develop and complete research projects, directed readings, and/or additional course work in a specified area that will meet individually identified learning objectives for which there is no existing course offering.
Course Content

The following global ideas guide the design and delivery of this course:

  • Responding to individual needs is a foundational concept in Child and Youth Care.  This course design allows application of this principle to individual interests and needs of the students
  • Learning and acquisition of skills, knowledge and attitudes occur in many contexts.  Individuals draw on their experiences to increase their understanding of theory and its links with field practice
  • Evidence of learning can take many forms.  Collaborative planning between student and faculty contributes to enriched learning.
Methods Of Instruction

Methods of Instruction could include a combination of:

  • Directed study
  • Seminar
  • Online learning
Means of Assessment

This course will conform to Douglas College policy regarding the number and weighting of evaluations. Typical means of evaluation would include a combination of:

  • Literature review
  • Major paper
  • Written assignments
  • Case evaluation
  • Testing
  • Group and/or individual presentations

 This is a graded course.

Learning Outcomes

The student and faculty will collaboratively develop course learning outcomes in establishing a learning contract for this course.
