"As I make friends and work alongside other students at Douglas, I notice how other students struggle with some of the basics that I learned in Student Success 1100. I can't recommend this class enough. Student Success 1100 will make your transition to college easier and will give you the skills and confidence to succeed in whatever field you are pursuing. "

As a single parent who had been out of school for more than 20 years, adopting a student mindset was the greatest challenge I faced. Student Success provided me with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively take notes, research and write exemplary papers, and prepare for exams.
"The class helped me to identify my own personal learning style and incorporate it into an extremely busy time schedule. Effective time management was key, as prioritizing and delegating were essential to meeting both my current responsibilities and assignment deadlines.
"Student Success 1100 set the stage for my own "Student Success", as I graduated the Community Social Service Worker program with top honours in June 2007. Interestingly enough, I still use many of those skills today, as I transition to my new job as a Career Consultant with RDK Career Services.
"With STSU 1100, I immediately started seeing positive results in my other courses. Lessons on note taking and how to answer essay questions helped me make huge changes in my academics. I had the highest marks on two exams from the entire class and my essay question answers were used twice for post-exam samples for the class on how to properly answer essay questions.
"There is a very large and a very important part of ourselves STSU 1100 helped us to discover. STSU 1100 helps students succeed in our post-secondary education, but so many aspects of the course also help us to navigate the rest of our lives."
"I barely met the requirements to graduate high school, so when I started college two and a half years later, I really didn't know how to be successful as a student. The first college course I took was STSU 1100 - Introduction to College Studies. Since then, I've used what I learned to help myself achieve high grades and to help others succeed in my role as a tutor at the Learning Centre.
"In addition to learning how to study and write, the Student Success course I took taught me the ins and outs of college life: now I am connected on campus and working towards completing a bachelor's degree debt-free! Intellectually and financially the knowledge and skills I learned have been invaluable."
