Orientation and EDGE Opportunities

New Student Orientation - General Volunteers

Starting college can be an intimidating experience. In order to help new students transition to the college environment, Student Life provides Orientation programs to help first year students get a head start, meet and connect with their peers and learn about campus resources.

We are recruiting enthusiastic volunteers who will help new students in their transition to Douglas College. If you're looking for a rewarding and fun way to give back, help us welcome new students to Douglas College!

General volunteers will assist with greeting, sign-in, day of event logistics, providing directions and so much more. These events couldn't be possible without you!

Besides meeting new people and having a blast, you will receive swag, leadership training and be the people who first year students always remember!

EDGE - Leaders and Volunteers!

We are looking for team leaders and station volunteers who will help new students in their transition to Douglas College. If you’re looking for a rewarding and fun way to give back and welcome new students to Douglas College, then join the team!

Preference will be given to individuals who have previous experience in leadership positions, and those who plan on continuing their studies at the College in the Fall Semester. However, all students are encouraged to apply!

As a team leader during The EDGE, you will:

  • Lead a group of up to 20 students (with a partner) through team building activities and challenges for all 3 days of the EDGE
  • Create an inclusive and safe environment for your team members
  • Encourage students to get involved, get healthy, and participate to the full extent

As a station volunteer, you will:

  • Host a specific station during Friday and/or Saturday of the EDGE
  • Explain the station's goals and rules, while ensuring a safe and inclusive space
  • You will be required to lead 30-50 students during each station rotation so having confidence in public speaking is an asset
