On Thursday April 26, Douglas College Self-Employment Services hosted the annual Entrepreneur of the Year Awards in the Molson Canadian Theatre at the Hard Rock Casino.
The annual event celebrates the success of alumni from the Douglas College Self-Employment Program, recognized as one of the largest and most successful entrepreneurial training programs in Canada.
The fun evening began with a networking reception followed by the awards presentation. Attending VIPs and dignitaries from the Tri Cities included Joan Isaacs, MLA, Coquitlam-Burke Mountain; City of Coquitlam Mayor Richard Stewart and David Munro, Manager of Economic Development; Michael Hind, CEO, Tri Cities Chamber of Commerce and Catherine Ackerman, Board Chair.
Representing the Burnaby Board of Trade was Paul Holden, President and CEO and Tessa Vanderkop, Marketing, Programs and Sustainability Manager. Attending from the City New Westminster was Bill Harper, City Councillor, Carolyn Armanini, Economic Development Coordinator and Blair Fryer, Communications and Economic Development Manager. Lizz Kelly, CEO, New Westminster Chamber of Commerce was also a guest as well as Chamber of Commerce Serving Maple Ridge & Pitt Meadows President Ken Holland and Office Manager Flori Chaykowski.
Nominee submissions were selected on the basis of five criteria: business achievements, product and service differentiators, marketing and operational strategies, community service and revenue. Two finalists and one winner were recognized in seven award categories, including overall Entrepreneur of the Year.
