CFCS and Psychiatric Nursing students can study in Uganda in Summer 2020!

Earn nine Douglas College credits:

  • CFCS 3040: International Service Learning - 6 credits over the Winter and Spring semesters
  • CFCS 3900: Perspectives in International and Community Development - 3 credits

Program Schedule* 

  • Saturday, November 30 - Group interviews, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm (part of selection process)
  • January – CFCS 3040 begins at Douglas College: 3 hours per week, Thursday evenings
  • April 27 – CFCS 3900 begins at Douglas College:  3 hours per day
  • May 9 – Group departure to Uganda
  • May 11 – Arrive in Masaka, Uganda
  • May 12-June 17 – Service-learning project at a community non-profit organization
  • June 18 and 19 – Travel to and stay in Entebbe, Uganda for debriefing
  • June 20 – Program ends. Return home, or start personal travel.

Program Fee:  $3,000

Includes:

  • group airport transfer upon arrival in Uganda
  • all accommodations (shared)
  • all breakfasts and dinners
  • return transportation to service learning site, Monday - Friday

Excludes:

  • Uganda visa application
  • tuition and other Douglas College student fees**
  • mandatory vaccinations and/or medicines
  • airfare
  • mandatory travel medical insurance
  • airport transfers in Vancouver
  • all lunches
  • cell phone service plan
  • personal spending

*Tuition and other Douglas College student fees will be partially subsidized by the Uganda Endowment Fund. Students registered in field school courses will be opted out of the U-Pass BC Program for the Summer 2020 semester. Students may be eligible to receive an award or scholarship to offset expenses. See below for information on how to apply.

**Passports need to be valid for at least 6 months after you return to Canada.  For example, if you plan to come home on July 1, 2020, your passport needs to be valid until at least January 1, 2021.

International Programs Awards/Scholarships

  • Douglas College students may be eligible for a $750 to $2,500 award/scholarship!
  • A minimum 2.00 cumulative GPA is required
  • Download a fillable award/scholarship application form*
  • Download a fillable academic reference form*, or indicate on your award/scholarship application form the you'd like us to use the one from your field school application
