While studying abroad, you can face major financial challenges. Costs can include transportation, accommodations and food, program and tuition fees, travel documents (including your passport and visa), immunizations, medical insurance, luggage, and your personal items.
If you are spending a semester abroad or involved in longer work and learn activities, you may have to show you have the financial resources to cover your stay up-front before being admitted to a foreign country.
To help ease these costs, consider applying for one of the many financial awards or scholarships available to Douglas College students or for a student loan. Find out more:
Awards are available through Douglas College International and are offered to support our eligible Canadian and Permanent Resident students who choose to participate in an approved study, work or volunteering activity abroad.
If you are studying abroad in a for-credit program (eg. field schools, exchanges, semester abroad, and some work and learn programs) you may be eligible to apply for BC/Canada student loans to help cover your tuition costs.
