Office Administration

Administrative Assistants carry out a variety of administrative duties to support managers and professionals. They work throughout the private and public sectors. Advances in technology have affected the duties of the administrative assistant. They are now taking on more tasks such as developing spreadsheets, drafting correspondence, supervising databases, updating web sites and producing presentation materials. These shifts have resulted in a more complex support role for these workers than in previous years. As such, individuals who have a wider variety of computer skills will be in higher demand. Graduates of our programs will be highly proficient in computer applications and will demonstrate abilities in communication and interpersonal skills, problem-solving, teamwork, and office procedures.  If you are looking for a short-term program (five courses plus an optional practicum) to provide the essential training for a job in office administration, or have been out of the work force for a while and need a quick refresher, the Basic Office Skills Certificate program may be for you.  For more information check out Certificate in Basic Office Skills.

Legal Administrative Assistants , with training and experience in the various areas of legal practice as well as strong computer and communications skills, are sought after. Graduates may find employment in law firms, notary offices, legal departments for companies, or government agencies or ministries. Graduates of our program are trained in legal office procedures, legal terminology, court systems, legal record keeping, billing clients, and in the preparation, filing and service of legal documents in the areas of Wills and Estates, Family Law, Litigation, Corporate Law and Conveyancing. Medical Office Assistants perform a variety of administrative and clinical duties in doctors’ offices, clinics, hospitals, and other medical settings. They must have excellent interpersonal skills, as well the ability to be tactful and discreet. Advances in technology have impacted the duties of the medical office assistant. The increasing use of electronic medical records requires that the medical office assistant stay current with technological developments. As such, individuals who have a wider variety of computer skills will be in higher demand. Graduates of our program will be highly proficient in the use of both paper and electronic medical records. Students will receive a sound basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology and an extensive knowledge of medical terminology.
