Dean's message

Welcome to the Faculty of Child, Family and Community Studies!

The Faculty of CFCS is proud to offer well-established, highly regarded and innovative human service programs designed to meet the real needs of the community and to get you started in a rewarding career. We are known for maintaining a breadth of applied programs that are multi-disciplinary and practice based. We offer certificate, diploma, post-diploma and bachelor degree programs, all overseen by advisory committees composed of experienced practitioners and agency representatives.

Our programs are designed to do three things:

  1. Equip our students with both the knowledge and practical skills to become valued professionals. There are many ways to acquire the knowledge, including full time, part time, online and blended learning opportunities. We arrange about 800 practicums each year, which tells you just how important real world experience is to us. Students graduating from these programs experience a high rate of employment in a variety of community and government funded agencies.
  2. Prepare students for further study either at Douglas College or elsewhere. Many of our courses ladder from diploma to degree and transfer to other universities. Increasingly our degrees are open to those who complete the Certificate in Academic Foundations.
  3. Assist practitioners returning to refresh their knowledge, upgrade their professional qualifications, and develop their careers.

Please view our website to see how we can help you achieve your learning and career goals. I wish you success and welcome the opportunity to assist you.

Our faculty office number is 604 527 5484.
