End-of-Life Doula Certificate

Registration information for scheduled offerings of the certificate program is listed below.

The End-of-Life Doula Certificate (BREV 1100) provides a non-credited college certificate for people wishing to provide quality end-of-life care to people who are dying and for their families.

End-of-Life Doulas are advocates for their clients and complement the work of the medical community and hospice-palliative care workers and volunteers. End-of-Life Doulas assist clients in creating and carrying out their health-care treatment decisions, as well as providing support to clients and their family and friends.

This certificate program has been developed with oversight of an advisory committee that includes representatives from the BC Centre for Palliative Care, the Camp Kerry Society and experienced palliative-care social workers. Click here to see the detailed Course Outline

An End-of-Life Doula will

  • advocate for the best possible experience for the client – this is unique to each client
  • assist clients in creating and carrying out their health care treatment decisions
  • share knowledge about legalities, options, and tools (SPEAK UP, MY VOICE) in Canada
  • facilitate communication between client, family and other care providers
  • protect the client’s dignity and the family’s memory during the death experience
