This course is a tool-kit for the independent musician. Much is said about digital distribution’s democratization of the music industry, but it is more competitive than ever, with less revenue to support musicians working at any level. Subjects covered include: how to break through, not break up; getting gigs and professional representation; copyright issues: joining SOCAN, royalties, sample clearance, cover versions etc.; digital distribution; contracts; creating and maintaining a website and web presence; merchandise; surviving touring; factor grants. Minimum age: 14 yrs.
