Barrington, Barrie - Piano
Dr. Barrington teaches full time in the music Department at Douglas College in New Westminster. His teaching duties include both private and class piano and he is currently the head of the class piano division. Barrie earned both his MMus and DMA from UBC and studied with the renowned pianist, Robert Silverman. While at UBC, Barrie was awarded two doctoral fellowships and won the prestigious UBC concerto competition. Aside from his teaching duties, Dr. Barrington performs solo and chamber music and is a busy judge and adjudicator throughout BC and Western Canada.
Das, Geeta - Woodwinds/Brass
Geeta is a highly qualified professional musician that has been performing and teaching music in Vancouver for almost two decades. She has studied music at Douglas College in New Westminster, the University of British Columbia, and she has also studied privately in New York. She is well versed in a variety of musical styles, everything from Classical and Jazz, to Latin, Funk, R&B, and Broadway Show Tunes. Geeta has performed with such artists as renowned jazz trombonist Bill Watrous, the Juno award winning Brad Turner, Ray Garraway (K-OS), Daniel Adair (Nickelback), rap star Kanye West, and many more. Geeta has a great deal of knowledge and passion for music that she hopes to share with the community.
Fairbairn, Hazel - Music Business/Audio Engineering
Hazel grew up in and around London, UK, and studied music at The City University and viola at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, meanwhile playing with various avant-garde ensembles, an African jazz band, and in a lot of Irish Pubs. She studied Ethnomusicology at University College Cork and the University of Cambridge and her PhD "Anarchy and Heterophony in the Traditional Irish Music Session" was the first in its field. Recording, managing and touring Europe and North America with electronic/acoustic fusion pioneers Horace X took most of the following ten years, and also brought Hazel to Canada for the first time. She moved here in 2012 having returned to school to study music pedagogy at the Institute of Education in London in 2009. She approaches teaching as a musician, facilitator and collaborator, prioritizing experiential and peer-to-peer learning.
Fulton, Adam - Audio Engineering
Adam is a musician, record producer/engineer, and a composer/sound designer for film, games, and transmedia. Upon graduating with an honours degree from the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, he was contracted by the BBC and Mainframe Entertainment as a sound editor, and became the head engineer/manager of Post City Productions in Toronto. He has engineered and/or produced many label and indie artists over the years including Paul McCartney, Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Raissa (BMG), Terry Clarke, Neil Innes (Monty Python), Desi pop-idol Raghav, Loose Change Trio and David Ward. He has composed original music or provided sound design/mixing for many projects including Warner Bros ('Jonah Hex: the Motion Comic, Batman Black and White, I Am Legend: Awakenings, Inception: The Cobol Job, Red Riding Hood), Universal (Hellboy II: The Golden Army motion comic), Disney, 20th Century Fox (Broken Saints), as well as shows for TSN, CBC, OLN, and Out TV. Currently he is a contributing sound designer/5.1 mixer for Microsoft's best-selling Halo franchise, mixing and mastering records for local and international artists and playing session guitar/banjo whenever possible.
Hansen, Lisa - Piano
AVCM, BCRMTA. Suzuki Piano Workshops: Vancouver, Langley, Victoria, Bellingham, Oregon, Idaho, San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles, Bermuda. Lisa has taught Suzuki Piano for 27 years.
Musaraj, Lindita - Violin
Lindita Musaraj achieved her diploma with highest honours from Academy of Arts, School of Music, Tirana University. Her international performances include working as a principal and solo violinist and violist with numerous orchestras such as the Orchestra of Colours, Costandina's Orchestra, Baorque Orchestra, all in Athens, and Symphonic Orchestra of Theatre of Opera and Ballet and Albania Radio Television Orchestra, both in Tirana. In Canada, she has performed in Burnaby Symphony Orchestra and New West Symphony Orchestra.
Pedersen, Cathy - Piano
Cathy Pedersen received a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Idaho and a Master's of Music in Piano Pedagogy from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. She is active as a teacher, accompanist, singer and conductor. Cathy teaches all levels but specializes in beginners and young beginners.
Pi, Amy - Piano, Percussion
As a former student of Douglas College in 2007, Amy Pi studied piano with Ellen Silverman and percussion with Robert Caldwell. She achieved her Diploma in Performing Arts as a piano major in 2010 and completed her Bachelor of Music in percussion at the University of British Columbia in 2012. Amy is patient and supportive. With enthusiasm, she aims to bring the joys of music-playing to the community. All ages are welcomed.
Quong, Meijane - Piano
Dr. Meijane Quong, DMA (Oregon), MMus (McGill), Licentiate Diploma (McGill), BMus(Alberta), AMus (Western Board). While on faculty at the University of PEI, Dr. Quong performed solo and duo recitals for CBC (Halifax) and NPR (US). She has performed concertos, solo and duo recitals in Quebec, Ontario, the Maritimes, BC, Yukon, Oregon and North Carolina and has given master classes at the Central Vancouver Island Community Music School, and at Elizabeth Cith State University, NC. In addition to teaching for the Community Music School, Dr. Quong is on Faculty at Kwantlen University College and is an active member of the Canadian Music Festival Adjudicators Association.
Stiles, Allen - Piano, MTD Prep Theory
Born and raised in Bella Coola, Allen Stiles received his master's degree at the University of British Columbia while studying with Lee Kum Sing. He is a found member and artistic director of the Little Chamber Music Series That could Society, and is a member of the contemporary chamber group, Standing Wave. He is also a highly respected freelance pianist and teacher throughout the Lower Mainland. Recently, Allen has expanded his interests to include conducting and is currently the music director for the Richmond Gateway Theatre's annual winter music theatre productions.
Stoffberg, Clinton - Voice
Canadian tenor Clinton Bradley Stoffberg, based in Vancouver, recently joined the ranks of Juno-nominated vocal ensemble, musica intima. With musica intima, Clinton has toured extensively giving performances and conducting workshops. He also appears frequently as a soloist and in recital. Clinton was engaged as a participant in OperaWorks’ 2013 Two-Week Winter Intensive program in LA and the 2012 Oxford Lieder Festival Residential Master Course. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of British Columbia. Teaching is also an important aspect of Clinton’s career; he teaches beginner to advanced students in a variety of styles.
Southwood, Louise - Classical Guitar
Classical Guitarist Louise Southwood, originally from the UK, holds a Bachelor of Music (hons) degree from London’s prestigious Royal College of Music. She has over 15 years of teaching experience including tenure at a number of the top private schools in England. Since then she has lived and played throughout the world while recording two CDs. In 2004 Louise relocated to Bermuda where she was resident Classical Guitarist with the Bermuda School of Music and was co-organiser of The Bermuda International Guitar festival for seven years.
Wang, Karin - Piano
Karin strives to provide efficient and enjoyable lessons to people of all ages. She is a dedicated teacher who emphasizes fine musicianship and learning through exploration and discovery. Karin is patient and encouraging, and her students achieve top marks in exams.
Hyun, Hey Woun-Cello/Piano
Dr. Hey Woun Hyun is a highly organized and motivated professional music teacher with solid experience. For the past fifteen years, she has been teaching Cello, Piano and Music Theory. Hey Woun has been principle cellist in numerous symphonies which included the Opera Appassionata, the North Shore Opera Society Orchestra and the West Coast Symphony Orchestra. She has also been performing chamber music for charitable organizations such as Genesis Safe House and fundraisers for spinal research. Hey Woun holds a B.A. in Music and Cello Performance from South Korea. She furthered her studies at the University of Potsdam in Germany where she received another B.A and M.A. in Music Education. With a post graduate scholarship from the University of Potsdam, Hey Woun completed her PhD in Education. She also has a Teaching Certificate for elementary school in Germany. She is currently a Music Faculty of North Shore Music Academy, West Vancouver Community Centre and Member of BCRMTA since 2011. Her passion for music and education are what she wants to share with all her students, resulting in high marks in exams and festivals.
Putz, Ian-MTD Sequencing & Synthesis
Ian Putz is an internationally respected composer and arranger whose numerous credits include two Hollywood feature films (“LAPD-To Serve and Protect” starring Michael Madsen and Dennis Hopper; “Totally Blonde” featuring Michael Buble in his first starring role), and many television series on CBC, CTV, HBO, A&E, and The History Channel. He composed “Bullets Over Broadway” for Paul Sorvino and Hugh Hefner and is presently composing for several American networks. He has over 30 years of experience working with such diverse ensembles as Aerosmith, Motley Crue, Rita McNeil, David Foster, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Ensembles, and Jazz Big Bands. Ian is also an accomplished, in-demand full-time musician for over 30 years, with numerous credits on albums, movies, television shows, jingles, and multi-media productions.
Martone, David-Instructor for “Demo a Song in Logic X”
To listen to the music of Dave Martone is like experiencing a simultaneous explosion of sound, color and flavor. Sometimes over the top, sometimes minimalistic and sometimes a mixture of both, Martone never ceases to amaze with his talents on the instrument and is one of Canada’s finest guitarists to date! Dave is also an educator and clinician for such organizations as the prestigious Berklee College of Music, The National Guitar Workshop, Workshop Live, Guitar Workshop Plus, Parker Guitars, Digitech Processing, Vox Amplification, Radial Engineering, and Cakewalk Recording Software. Dave has worked with the top in his field alongside of Joe Satriani, Stu Hamm, Billy Sheehan, Tosin Abasi, Yngwie Malmsteen, Greg Howe, Paul Gilbert, Marty Friedman, Jennifer Batten, Chad Kroeger, Lee Aaron, Bif Naked– and the list goes on and on.
Sarfehjooy, Kayvon-MTD Audio Recording Techniques
Kayvon Sarfehjooy (“K-Salaam”) is a Producer, Audio Engineer, & DJ / Turntablist, originally from Minneapolis, MN. In Minnesota he first made a name for himself as a Turntablist in the budding Midwest Hip-Hop scene in the late 90’s. Kayvon DJ’ed on the #1 Hip-Hop Radio show in the Twin Cities. He toured around the country and also performed at various shows in his hometown, alongside many major artists (Nas, De La Soul, Rage Against the Machine, etc.) K-Salaam’s production skills and expertise are sought after by music professionals throughout the world, besides being a full-time Instructor at Douglas College MTD Program, he also teaches a Summer Class – “The Virtual Producer” (going on its 5th year) at the Clive Davis Inst. of Recorded Music at NYU-Tisch, and has previously taught many Vice Media music seminars in Brazil, as well as New York’s Scratch Academy, and at the former Inst. of Audio Research in NYC. As a DJ / Turntablist, K-Salaam has toured Brazil & the U.S., and has performed alongside some of the biggest artists in the world (Lauryn Hill, Nas, Wu-Tang Clan, Snoop Dogg, A Tribe Called Quest, etc.) just to name a few.
Deavy, Kaitlin-Instructor for “School of Rock”
Kaitlin Deavy holds a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Guelph, a singer-Songwriter Certificate from Langara College, and is currently completing her diploma in Music Technology at Douglas College. She moved to Vancouver to immerse herself in songwriting, performing, and studying music. Since her arrival, Kaitlin has been writing songs, hosting open mic nights and formed the zany Cat Murphy Band. Kaitlin has leapt at every opportunity to perform, teach and inspire music in those around her including hosting summer camps, private and group lessons and after school programs. By day, Kaitlin studies music production, guitar, theory, composition and all things music. By night, she can usually be found in a coffee shop, pub or theatre, proudly sharing her humorously honest stories in the form of songs. Kaitlin has been teaching private and group guitar lessons for the past five years with students ranging from ages 4 to 56, in addition to performing and organized a wide range of musical events, workshops, performances and camps. Her goal is to inspire, entertain and educate those around her.
