Course Description
The purpose of this course is to provide students with the theoretical foundation for assessing, designing and facilitating effective therapeutic recreation groups. Students will also experiment with and analyse various creative arts activities. With this experience students will assess group development and apply leadership skills in the design and delivery of creative arts groups.

Evaluation is consistent with Douglas College Course Evaluation Policy. An evaluation schedule is presented at the beginning of the course.

Learning Outcomes
The student will
- Observe and apply group dynamics theory to assess group behaviour
- Describe the process for developing, facilitating and managing effective therapeutic recreation groups
- Explain the meaning of leadership, including: definitions, theories, skills and qualities, principles and methods, roles and responsibilities
- Analyse and adapt recreation and creative arts activities
- Experiment with applying physical adaptations to creative arts activities
- Demonstrate knowledge and resource awareness in a wide variety of recreation activities/experiences
- Demonstrate leadership and technical proficiency in a complex creative arts experience
