| HUMD 0130 | Personal Development and Career ExplorationsOur personalities influence our career choices and our ability to find employment and work cooperatively with others. This 15-week course will help students develop awareness and understanding of themselves and their career choices. Topics will include self-esteem and interpersonal communication skills, personality and temperament factors, needs and values clarification, interest assessments, occupational research skills, goal setting, problem solving and decision-making. This basic introductory/exploratory course is designed for students with little recent educational experience. Instruction will be moderately paced and will occur in a supportive and interactive environment. It is recommended that students choose one of HUMD 1142, HUMD 1147 or HUMD 0130 because of overlapping content. |
| HUMD 1100 | Personal DevelopmentThis course is designed to help students understand the factors that influence behaviour and to learn how to take charge of one’s own life. The focus will be on increasing self-awareness and knowledge as a stepping stone to personal growth. The class will deal with developing personal strengths, coping strategies, self-management, and personal goal attainment. Specific topics such as personal needs/rights/values, individual style, self-esteem/concept, and stress/time management will be explored. |

| HUMD 1142 | Career ExplorationsThis seven-week course assists individuals to make informed career choices. Assessments of personal values, needs, skills, interests and abilities are considered; information resources concerning occupations, educational programs, training requirements and future trends are presented. Class discussions, outside readings and research, encourage students to consider the occupations and training opportunities available to them. It is recommended that students choose one of HUMD 1142, HUMD 1147 or HUMD 0130 because of overlapping content. |
| HUMD 1152 | The Dynamics of Interpersonal RelationshipsThis course will provide the student with an opportunity to explore and understand the dynamics of interpersonal relationships. Self- awareness will be encouraged by examining personal type, values, needs and beliefs. Interpersonal communication skills such as self-disclosure, “I” messages, and active listening will be presented. Students will learn to apply new skills in their personal lives. |
