Statement on the continuing situation in Iran

On behalf of Douglas College, we wish to express our ongoing concern about the continuing situation in Iran in response to the tragic death of Mahsa Amini.

Douglas College stands in solidarity with the protestors – the courageous women of Iran – and all people who seek to protect human rights and stand against repression and discrimination. We support individuals’ right to peaceful protest without threat of harm and recognize the courage of those who stand up for equality and justice.

We want to remind the College community that there are supports available for both students and employees affected by this, or any other traumatic event:

For students:

  • Douglas College Counselling -- Douglas College students have access to free, accessible and confidential support through the student counselling office.

  • Here2Talk -- Registered B.C. post-secondary students (domestic and international) have access to this free, 24/7, confidential counselling and community referral services available via app, phone and web.

For employees:

  • Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) -- the Douglas College Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) provides confidential, professional assistance to help Douglas College employees and their family members resolve problems that affect their personal and work lives.
